Nadine Alexandra Dewi Ames, Putri Indonesia 2010 is now the official ambassador for the Borneo orangutan Survival Foundation. Recently, Nadine represented BOSF during several events and functions to raise awareness on conservation of Borneo orangutans and the importance of saving the species and their natural habitat in the forests of Kalimantan.
Nadine Alexandra has been interested in orangutans since childhood. “I am deeply fascinated by orangutans, for since I was a child I could see how clever they are and how similar they behave compared to us humans,” Nadine explained.
Nadine, a 19-year old student at Bath University (UK), majoring in Film and Screen Study, feels that she has a special relationship with orangutans. “During the quarantine stage for the Miss Indonesia pageant, orangutan conservation happened to be one of of the topics of discussion, I instantly felt that this is the topic I want to talk about,” she continued
Nadine saw her dreams came true when BOSF offered her the opportunity to become an ambassador for saving the orangutan and help BOSF to spred information and raise awareness regarding the conservation of orangutans and their habitat. Nadine looks forward to talking about the plight of orangutans when she travels to Sao Paulo Brazil later this year for the Miss Universe contest.
One of her first roles as ambassador was representing BOSF before a group of inetrnational students during EARCOS GIN Conference last Friday, April 8th, 2011 at the Jakarta International School. The students were very enthusiastic to see how a beauty queen strongly supports a conservation effort.
That same evening, Nadine attended the opening ceremony of the 2011 French Film Festival as a special guest of the French Ambassador, Mr. Philippe Zeller, held at Gedung Usmar Ismail, Rasuna Said, Jakarta. The next day, she attended a screening of a documentary entitled “Nenette” at XXI Platinum cinema, FX, Jakarta. this movie is one of only two documentaries out of 20 films being screened in this year’s French Film Festival.
Nadine is currently in the process of adopting a baby orangutan being rehabilitated by BOSF. BOSF offers an adoption program for supporters of orangutan as a means of raising funds to operate their two Orangutan Reintroduction Centers in Kalimantan.
“I am very happy! I am going to have her as my baby. I get to give her a name,” Nadine happily said about the program.
