The Chronicle Behind the National Costumes at the 2011 Miss Universe Pageant

All 89 Miss Universe 2011 contestants, including Miss USA Alyssa Campanella, will be wearing their national costumes on stage and in a public parade in Sao Paulo Brazil in advance of the Miss Universe 2011 competition. Each national costume is meant to capture the essence of a contestant's home country through fashion.

Though it is not a judged portion of competition, the national costume is always a hotly debated Miss Universe fan favorite National Costumes are usually chosen by the director of each national delegation and is based on the cultural history of the country and usually designed by a famous local fashion designer, this person sometimes also designs the wardrobe that the delegate will be wearing during the preliminary presentation and the final telecast.

The Miss Universe 2010 Ximena Navarrete was wearing a Benito Santos dress the day she won the 2010 Miss Universe crown at Las Vegas Nevada.

Here you will find some of the national costumes that the contestants will be wearing in September 3th at the National Costume Show (Hilton Sao Paulo).
